The latest Lake Ontario pier intended for a Mississauga development will be the Great Lakes' longest Canadian pier.
The Lakeview Village development is converting 177 acres of land. Once home to a coal-fired power plant, it is now converted into one of the Greater Toronto region's biggest "smart, future-ready" mixed-use communities.
Parts of the plan includes approximately 8,050 new residential units with a total capacity of 20,000 people and 200,000 square feet of commercial space. The community also features a slew of cool parks and communal spaces are all part of the plans.
A recent addition to the development is a 600-meter pier protruding out into Lake Ontario! The Lakeview Village pier will exceed neighbouring Burlington's Brant Street Pier, which is only 137 meters in length.
The pier is described as "the longest Canadian pier in the Great Lakes" by Lakeview Community Partners Limited, the corporation behind Lakeview Village. According to the developers, it will be one of the most iconic landmarks on Mississauga’s waterfront.
If the project succeeds, the pier at Lakeview Village could become one of Canada's longest. It would surpass the 470-meter-long White Rock Pier in British Columbia!
The Lakeview pier will have diamond shapes and an arc, symbolizing the new village's "sunrise-to-sunset" waterfront encounters.
Brian Sutherland, the Argo Development Corporation vice-president and Lakeview Village development lead, states that this is the embodiment of contemporary lakefront residing and the realization of the big plan vision.
Lakeview Village looks forward to establishing a stronger link between the land and the lake. It will create a true sense of place and will introduce sustainable waterfront spaces to Ontario for coming generations.
