With a surge in the number of skyscrapers, Toronto is growing up real fast.
According to the skyscraper authority Emporis, 13 of the 20 tallest private buildings in Canada were built in just the last ten years. By 2024, six more, that are presently under development, will walk on the runway.
The 2020 North American Index has shown that Toronto has the highest number of active tower cranes than any other city on the mainland, with 120 in the downtown core alone. And within a few years, those cranes will probably be replaced by the tallest condominiums in the country.
Here are some new skyscrapers that will completely transform the Toronto skyline:
Sky Tower
Height: 312.5 m (1,025 ft) Floors: 95
Hariri Pontarini's huge condo tower is scheduled for completion in 2024. Once completed, the current under-construction SkyTower will be Canada's tallest structure, a title First Canadian Place has held for 45 years.
Sky Tower will also have the most floors by 10, compared to the following tallest private structure. Enveloped by a smooth glass cover, there will be 840 townhouse suites at the foot of the world's longest street.
And that’s not all – the building also includes space for a hotel, public venues, offices, and shops. Besides, Lake Ontario almost seems to be in the backyard. The CN Tower will, at last, have an adversary in Toronto's sky.
The One
Height: 308.6 m (1,012 ft) Floors: 85
After a year or two, The One will have the option to call itself Canada's tallest structure. The cost of this accomplishment is about $1 billion. Over the road from One Bloor (a little further down on the road), the initial 18 floors are reserved for restaurants, event spaces, significant retailers, and a super-luxury Hyatt hotel. Stacked atop are 416 residential units with four stunning penthouses.
The St. Regis
Height: 276.9 m (908 ft) Floors: 57
Previously known as the He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named Tower, St. Regis stands apart. It is one of the most recent developments with a lot of architecture around. Completed in 2012, this emerald skyscraper is simply breath-taking.
Today, St. Regis is home to 261 lavish hotel rooms and 118 residential condo suites.
Aura
Height: 271.9 m (892 ft) Floors: 79
Completed in 2014, Aura has a bunch of lightsabers at the top. Along with Ryerson University's development, the expansion launched the modernization of the Yonge-Gerrard neighbourhood. Unfortunately, a lot of its retail potential still has not yet been able to take the much-needed grip.
Concord Canada House
Height: 230.2 m (755 ft) Floors: 70
CityPlace is back into action. By 2022, the Concord space will invite two new pinnacles taller than any of the other structures at the arm’s length. Being taller among the two, Canada House A highlights the best perspective on the Rogers Center from such a beautiful height.
Sugar Wharf Tower D
Height: 230.2 m (755 ft) Floors: 70
Lying at the foot of Yonge Street, Sugar Wharf can be called as one of the fastest-growing neighbourhoods in town. While Phase 1 is almost on its way to completion, it is planning to have three additional towers in Phase 2. However, as it is still in the planning stage, there is no approval yet to make it to this list.
1200 Bay Street
Height: 324 m (1,063 ft) Floors: 87
Be ready to see an ultimate transformation of the corner of Bloor and Bay with a stunning sky lounge and floor-to-ceiling windows in 1200 Bay Street. ProWinko and Kroonenberg Groep have hired the Canadian group and Swiss-based architectural company, Quadrangle and Herzog & de Meuron, to develop this mesmerizing beauty.
YSL Residences
Height: 343.9 m (1,128 ft) Floors: 85
Yonge and Gerrard's southeast corner has seen so many changes in the past few years just to get the perfect clearance for structuring two towers, named Yonge Street Living (YSL). A sky-bridge will connect both the sky-touching developments.
372 Yonge
Height: 255m (836.6) Floors: 74
The Aura Tower is as yet the tallest private structure in Canada with 79 storeys. However, 372 Yonge will be just a few storeys shorter to win the race from Dialog. Built across the road, it will be home to a new place called Club Bluenote, which is named after the famous 1960s musical club that resided on the property.
200 Queens Quay West
Height: 237.50 m (779 ft) and 144.00 m (472 ft) Floors: 71 and 41
The waterfront will shortly be unnoticeable from Uptown because of this pair of pinnacles from Lifetime Developments. Initially planned to keep it as economical housing, this parking area will instead be a blend of economical and classy condos.
Eau de Soleil Sky Tower
Height: 228.2 m (749 ft) Floors: 66
Famous as an “urban oasis on the waterfront,” the apartment suites at Eau de Soleil are replicas from Miami, giving a trendy look to Lake Ontario. Several kilometres outside of downtown, people can enjoy staggering skyline sight, a saltwater pool, and various other comforts.
Ten York
Height: 224 m (735 ft) Floors: 68
Built at the edge of Queens Quay West and York Street, Ten York represents the quintessential Toronto condo that surpasses both the style and grace of the city. You can have a splendid time here enjoying the spin and yoga studios, rooftop pool, and sky-high suites.
